Our parent lab, Legacy Digital Productions, handles studio and network work alongside family collections. A carousel of Kodachrome from 1971 goes through the same building, one slide at a time, as anything a studio sends.

Each slide, negative or print is scanned individually, at a resolution chosen for what the original can actually resolve.
Start by counting
Nobody has ever counted them. Here is how.
A carousel
80 – 140
slides, depending on the type. Count carousels and you are most of the way there.
A shoebox of 4×6 prints
600 – 900
photographs, usually. Albums vary; count pages and multiply.
A negative sleeve page
≈ 35
frames. A single strip holds four to six.
Count containers, multiply, and you will be close enough for a useful quote. Still-image work is priced by the piece, so the number that matters is how many originals you actually have, and most people underestimate.
Three formats
Slides, negatives and prints are different jobs.
A mounted slide is a finished positive that can go straight onto a lightbox. A negative strip has to be inverted and colour-balanced, and its colour masks drift with age. A print may be loose, in an album, or stuck down, and a crease put in during scanning is permanent. All three come back as image files; how they get there differs.
Motion picture film and video tape are separate crafts with separate sites: digitalfilmtransfer.com and convertvideotapes.com.
How it works
Four steps, all under one roof.
1 · Intake
Every box is logged and tracked under chain of custody. Tell us the order you want preserved before you pack.
2 · Inspect
Slides and prints are checked for mould, fading and surface damage. Fragile prints are handled without pressure rollers.
3 · Scan
Each original scanned individually, at a resolution chosen for what it can actually resolve, not a headline DPI.
4 · Return
Image files on a flash or hard drive, and your originals back in the same shipment, in the order they arrived.

Legacy Digital Productions has been family owned and operated in Orange, California since 2001. Scott Foster founded it and still does the work himself. The building your carousels arrive at is the building they are scanned in.
